Project Overview

This commercial fitout in Potts Point combined a custom joinery reception build with a refurbishment of the building's lift lobby. A sculpted, curved timber bench and reception joinery piece was built to follow the natural line of the space, taking in the building's outlook, while the lift lobby was re-lined in timber panelling with a terrazzo-look skirting and integrated lighting. Lift-related works were coordinated as part of the same programme, with the lift kept under manufacturer-specified protective film throughout construction.

Challenges

Curved joinery at this scale needs to be set out, fabricated and installed to tight tolerances so the finished bench reads as one continuous form rather than a series of straight panels. Running the lift lobby refurbishment alongside the reception joinery also meant sequencing trades carefully within an occupied commercial building, while keeping the lift and finished surfaces protected throughout.

FRANCA FITOUTS worked from detailed set-out drawings to fabricate and install the curved reception joinery in sections, aligning panel joins so the finished bench presents as one continuous sculpted form. The lift lobby was re-lined with timber panelling and a terrazzo-look skirting with integrated strip lighting, coordinated with the lift contractor so the lift itself remained protected under specified film for the duration of the works.
